With the sunshine on its way and the bank holidays upon us, there’s a real sense of summer just beginning. It’s a lovely time to start something new, and here at Treadles the shop is full of fresh ideas and inspiration.

Our pre-cuts cart is fully stocked once again , with a wide range of fabric rolls and squares in all sizes — perfect for quick makes or adding a little something new to your collection.

Over on the fat quarter table , you’ll find hundreds of new designs, along with some beautiful co-ordinated bundles that make it easy to bring a project together or give your fabric stash a lift.

For knitters, Colourmix continues to be a firm favourite, and our soft, lightweight mohair yarns are ideal for those slightly cooler summer evenings. The latest magazine has also arrived, filled with seasonal inspiration to enjoy at your own pace.

Our bookshelves have been refreshed , with a selection of interesting new titles and card sets — perfect for browsing if you’re looking for your next idea or a quiet moment of inspiration.

It’s finally starting to feel a little warmer, and we’re now gearing up towards Easter, a lovely time to start thinking about fresh, colourful projects for the months ahead.

Spring has certainly arrived at Treadles, and the shop is looking brighter by the day. Our pre-cuts cart is now full once again , with a beautiful selection of Spring and Summer fabrics. From sweet, smaller prints perfect for little ones, to boating and summery designs ideal for garden get-togethers, there’s plenty to inspire your next make.

Our quarter table is also bursting with inspiration, with over 100 new prints recently added — well worth a browse if you’re looking for something a little different. And we’re excited to say that Tilda “Lovebird” will soon be gracing our shelves too.

For knitters, if you’re planning ahead for lighter projects, Rowan Mode’s “Colourmix” yarn has just arrived back in stock and is already proving popular. This lovely yarn blends white with soft tones of pinks, greens, blues, greys, browns — and even a rainbow mix — perfect for creating something fresh for the new season.

Spring Is on Its Way at Treadles

Hi Everyone,

My goodness, time really does move on — and it’s starting to feel like spring is just around the corner. With the days slowly getting lighter, it’s lovely to begin thinking about fresh projects and new ideas for the season ahead.

Here at Treadles, our shelves will soon be filling up again. Our January fabric releases are currently in transit , following a few delays, and we’re hoping to be unpacking them this coming week. Once they arrive, we’ll be restocking our pre-cuts cart with rolls, squares and other favourites, as well as filling those empty spaces on our fabric shelves.

We also have ribbons for the coming season on their way, including delicate sheer ribbons in a range of widths and colours, alongside top-ups of our regular satin ribbons that are always popular.

There are no images just yet of our new goodies, but as soon as everything arrives and is unpacked, I’ll be sharing photos so you can see what’s new and start planning your next make.

In the meantime, enjoy your crafting, and thank you as always for your patience while we wait for deliveries to arrive.

Christmas Wishes, Festive Opening Hours, and a Few Bargains

Hi Everyone,

Here at Treadles, we’d like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a healthy New Year. We also want to say a huge thank you to all of our loyal customers for your support throughout the year — it truly means so much to us.

Our opening hours remain the same over the festive period, although on Christmas Eve we will be closing at 2:00pm . We will then reopen on Wednesday 7th January at 10:30am .

Behind the scenes, we’ve been reorganising the storeroom, which means there will be a sale of bits and bobs to make way for new stock in the New Year.

If you fancy picking up a bargain, do pop in for a rummage through our remnant bundles and bags of yarns , along with cotton and silk fabrics , and plenty of other little treasures.

These are ideal for textile students , small projects, and sketchbooks.

There’s a definite chill in the air now, and those darker mornings have well and truly arrived, but here at Treadles, we’re starting to unwrap a little festive magic.

The first of our Christmas deliveries have landed, and the shop is currently full of unopened boxes just waiting to reveal their treasures. There’s something rather exciting about this time of year, when the shelves slowly start to fill with ribbons, prints, yarns and trimmings that make the season so special.

We’ve already unpacked a beautiful selection of starry Christmas prints , glittering ribbons , and essential haberdashery (including those D rings so many of you have been asking for!). And that’s only the beginning.

Inside the remaining boxes are even more seasonal delights, soon you’ll see the displays brightening up with Rowan’s Kaffe’s Palette , gorgeous rich ruby tones , warm autumnal browns, and something a little different for knitters too. The brand-new Rowan Colourmix and the soft, luxurious mohairs from the Rowan Mode range have also arrived, alongside their autumn additions.

Blooming Brilliant: Our Summer Break and the Battle of Flowers

Hi Everyone,

It’s that time of year again when Jersey starts buzzing with colour and creativity, and here at Treadles, we are takeing a well-earned summer break.

We’re open as usual this Wednesday (23rd July) and Saturday (26th July), and then we’ll be closed from Monday 28th July right through to Tuesday 12th August. We’ll be back open as normal on Wednesday 13th August.

If you’re local, you’ll know that this break always lines up with the Battle of Flowers. It’s one of Jersey’s oldest traditions, starting way back in 1902 and it’s grown into one of the biggest events of the summer.

There’ll be floral floats, dancers, musicians, and performers filling the town centre across two days:

The Day Parade is on Friday 8th August , kicking off at 1pm
The Moonlight Parade follows on Saturday 9th August , starting at 7.30pm and finishing with fireworks

The route runs right through the heart of St Helier, from the Esplanade, past Liberation Square, along Broad Street, and back again. It’s free to attend, and always draws a big crowd. If you’ve never been, it’s worth seeing just for the sheer effort and creativity that goes into it.

So whether you’re getting stuck into some crafting or heading out to enjoy the parades, we hope you have a lovely couple of weeks. We’ll be back soon with everything you need for your next project, from fabric and haberdashery to knitting, crochet, and sewing machine supplies.

Discover the Liberation Town Trail in St Helier

Hi Everyone,

May has arrived, and with it comes a wonderful opportunity to delve into our island's rich history. The Liberation Town Trail is now open and runs until Sunday, 18th May 2025 , offering a unique way to commemorate Jersey's Liberation.

This self-guided trail features 27 beautifully illustrated displays in shop windows throughout St Helier's Town Centre. Each display tells a part of the story of the Channel Islands' liberation, providing both locals and visitors with a poignant reminder of our shared past.

Whether you're a history enthusiast or simply looking for a meaningful way to spend your day, the Liberation Town Trail is a must-see. It's a chance to reflect, learn, and appreciate the resilience of our community.

And that’s not all – Parade Gardens will be buzzing with life during the Liberation Festival ! Head down on Saturday 10th May from 3pm–10pm or Sunday 11th May from 1pm–9pm to enjoy brilliant performances from local artists, free children’s activities , and plenty of delicious food and drink . It’s the perfect way to soak up the atmosphere and celebrate freedom with the community.

It’s definitely starting to feel a lot more like spring, isn’t it? The sun’s beginning to show its face a little more, the daffodils are standing tall, and those lighter evenings are creeping in bit by bit.

A Royal Visit and Summer Plans

Hi Everyone,

Wow, what a week! �� The King and Queen's visit was absolutely wonderful. It was His Majesty's first visit to the Channel Islands since becoming Monarch. Even the rain couldn't put a damper on our spirits! It was a day to remember, for sure. Read all about their visit on the Royal Family's website here

We've just restocked our Ribbons and Trims, and there's something extra special in this batch. Alongside our classic Satin Ribbons, we've added a gorgeous selection of Velvet Ribbons. As the days get warmer, our store is bursting with exciting new arrivals. We're in the process of unpacking our latest deliveries, and you can already spot some fantastic new additions on our shelves.

We have some wonderful new machine deliveries. The ever-popular Bernette Academy is back, complete with its spacious table, making it perfect for large projects. As we gear up to celebrate the 79th anniversary of Jersey’s liberation on May 9th, I'm feeling incredibly proud and reflective. This day marks when our island was freed from occupation, a pivotal moment in our history that shaped the Jersey we know and love today.

Let’s cherish this opportunity to reflect on our past, celebrate our freedom, and enjoy the sense of community that makes Jersey so special. Whether you're planning to attend the parades, enjoy the reenactments, or simply spend time with family and friends, let’s make this Liberation Day one to remember.

It might be a bit chilly, but things are looking up as we head towards Easter. Our shelves are starting to fill with new products—bright colours, fresh yarns, prints, and publications.

Summer Opening - It's time for me to take a break!

Hi everyone, it’s lovely to see the sunshine bouncing back after that huge deluge we had last week.

We are now in the midst of the growing season, and it's that time of year when I take a break.

I will be closed for the last two weeks of July.

Whether it's gardening, knitting, embroidery, tapestry, or planning the next project, I have plenty of options. Maybe I'll just sit back and listen to the birds sing!

We will reopen on Wednesday, August 2nd.

It's that time of year when we all have special functions to attend, such as garden parties and weddings.

This week , for our sewers, the latest summer edition of Inspirations magazine has arrived, packed with patterns for every occasion. Fashion, children's, and accessories for the home are included, and our cotton fabrics will inspire plenty of ideas to keep us all busy.

On the knitting scene , the new Rowan Four Seasons yarn has arrived and is very reasonably priced, along with the Four Seasons Publication to take you through the year.

For babies , Emu Little Isle yarn has arrived. All shades are in stock, with gentle mixes of color and beautifully soft texture.

We even have a book for those wishing to learn to knit. It's an easy book to follow with lots of illustrations.

Well it has been an amazing celebratory time with the Kings Coronation and then Liberation Day.

Brrr, a bit chilly this morning, a lthough with the days starting to get longer it's time to start thinking Spring.

A celebration of Kidsilk Haze is one of Rowan's subjects in their latest magazine which is now on our shelves. It is a very versatile yarn that goes a very lo----ng way! You can create cosy lightweight garments with this yarn, which is of course ideal for Spring and Summer garments.

On the home front , as we all start to sew for summer, Debbie Shore's, 'Half Yard Home' is a super way to start. This book is packed with ideas for those every day and special occasions.

Our new fabric designs are in transit and should be on our shelves very soon.

We can't wait to get in the new designs of lovely florals, checks, sausage dogs, robots and many more!

The windows are dressed, the lights are lit...

It must be Christmas!

The shelves are filling, our Sewing machines are on their way, so as long as the weather becomes a little kinder we should be unpacking this week.

Whether its a Christmas present or a textile student considering a machine for Christmas or someone taking up a new hobby there are models for everyone.

If you are planning your table dressings or making those presents there’s lots of fabrics to choose from.

For the Knitter, there are lots of yarns to suit all budgets for those Xmas Decorations and Gifts.

And if you are looking for Christmas cards, do pick up a pack of RNLI cards with lots of designs to choose from.

New Goodies!

With the beautiful summer days past we are now concentrating on those cooler evenings and shorter days on their way.

My doesn’t time fly!

Just thought it was time for another blog.

With the beautiful summer days past, we are now concentrating on those cooler evenings and shorter days that are on their way.

At Treadles we are in the process of unpacking loads of new goodies to occupy ourselves during the coming winter season.

Fabrics

New Sprinkles - the entire colour range will be on our shelves shortly. Its a super little design with a subtle background and a tiny dot. Very versatile for all sorts of uses.

Other fabrics include baby dinosaurs which are also in lovely colours and great fun for our littluns. Plus we have Christmas fabrics, such as reindeers, Xmas trees, Santa, poinsetters and robin designs etc., in the usual traditional Reds and Greens.

Kits include needle felting, felt decorations, cross stitch, tapestries, knitting Yarns.

Changing Seasons

The shelves have been replenished for the coming season's new shades in various qualities and some multi-shades have been added to the mix.

And anyone considering a new sewing machine there and lots of models to suit all needs from Bernina and Singer

Summer Arrivals!

Hi Everyone, i t’s turning out to be a super summer. As the sun shines we bring out our latest summery additions...

To complement our canvas bags this week, we have seen the arrival of matching pencil cases and pencil tins, which also double up as useful storage for crochet hooks o r store scissors, pins, needles etc. in the larger version, and our purses and notebooks complete the set. They are ideal for students who require the complete kit and kaboodle, being easy to carry, with plenty of storage and in quirky designs. Sewing baskets are also available for those who prefer a more traditional approach.

Fabrics, trims, haberdashery and yarns arrive on a regular basis, as well as Bernina, Bernette and Singer machines. It’s great to see the Bernina 325 and 335 machines back in stock.

Here comes Easter!

As we get ready for Spring/Summer pastimes I thought I would give you an insight as to what has been drifting in.

With lighter evenings, it’s good to relax with our favorite pastimes.

If you are getting ready for those garden get togethers, we have some super summery prints for those summer house blinds. Plus cushions, bunting, tablecloth’s etc. just right for Al fresco dining.

Or of course it’s great to get comfy with your knitting and crochet.

Stitching wise, we have lots of tapestry kits for all ages starting from little kits suitable for 7yrs up, perfect for presents, plus we have samplers and cushions, plenty for all ages!

We also have had in some further Macrame supplies. The new colours that have just arrived are just right for plant pot holders. Whatever your pastime....enjoy!

Keep warm and Cosy up!

My goodness it’s windy out there. Just the opportunity to keep warm and cosy up with our knitting and needlework projects.

This week we have seen our Bernina Machines rolling in and out to our waiting customers.

The New Season Bernina Inspirations magazine is now in. Packed with patterns for fashion, accessories, home etc., also infomation on methods.

Wool stocks have been replenished with more colours available on Cotton Wool, Soft Yak, Alpaca Soft DK, so come in a take a look!

The latest publication from Georgia Farrell contains modern relaxed shapes great for spring and are well worth a look.

New fabric designs have arrived from elegant prints for home and fashion. Novelties are gradually arriving.

Brrrrr it’s getting cold out there...

Hi Everyone,

Brrrrr it’s getting cold out there!

Keeping warm the other day it was a good opportunity to take stock of my fabric and yarn stash, have a tidy up of my own bits and bobs and then remind myself of what is due into the shop.

Presently, I am knitting a largish scarf in Rowan Aria (seen here). I have been wanting to knit something up in this yarn for a long time. It’s lovely, knits up quite fast and feels really cosy. Get in touch or pop in on a Wednesday or a Saturday if you would like to find out more.

Moving on to my Fabrics... We have loads of colours, all different shapes and sizes. This made me think of a book that arrived in stock recently 'Quilting on the go - Paper piecing patchwork you can take anywhere' . This book is full of inspiration so we highly recommend it! If you are keen on having a look, then come and visit us.
